Ara Chackerian is a San Francisco based entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist. Over his 25 years in business, he has helped launch companies in the healthcare field. One such company which he co-founded and serves as board member is TMS Health Solutions. It specializes in offering alternative treatments to patients with depression and other mental disorders who haven’t responded well to traditional medication. Ara Chackerian’s contributions extend to outside the United States as well. In 2009 while on a trip with his father in Armenia, he helped establish Nor Luyce, a mentoring program for low income or orphaned girls. It gives young girls the skills and education they need to become successful later in life. The organization has seen tremendous success in the years since been established. A majority of the programs’ funding comes from Ara.
He can also be credited with providing jobs to surrounding communities. Before Ara Chackerian set his sights on Chinandega, Nicaragua, the land had been ravaged by years of cattle grazing. As a result, people were struggling with deforestation. Ara helped establish Limonapa Teak, an environmental-friendly farm that promotes the growth of new trees and produces teak. They are able to create farming jobs for the surrounding community and help the environment slowly recover.
